Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). After two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. From 1981 onwards, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named head of the congressional reporters. Mitchell became the the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell has been a panelist as well as host of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was on an audience for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in The John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a range of noteworthy stories including weapons control, the budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal and was frequently along with President Reagan for summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
